Who the Heck am I

Welcome to my blog, I ran out of storage space on my last blog so instead of purchasing more space I decided to start another.

Photographing is one of my biggest passions in life. I've been a photographer for 20+ years. Although I have sold some of my work I consider myself an advance amateur. Which means I'm pretty good at pretending to know what I am doing. I arrived from Massachusetts to Northern Kentucky September 16, 2001. I hated it, for months I complained about living here, besides all the redneck jokes I would get there was nothing about Northern Kentucky I enjoyed, when I got over myself I dusted off my camera and headed for the hills, literally, I never fully understood what a beautiful place this is until I was given my first digital camera as a Christmas gift. In all honesty you couldn't get me to move out of this state.

Living so near to Cincinnati (I live right across the river) no other city can offer me more. Art museums, Cincinnati Zoo, symphony, theatre, aquarium, amusement park, Dozens of parks, one of the largest and most amazing firework display in the country and so much more. If you are from the area you know what I am talking about, if you're not, believe me when I say In and Around Northern Kentucky is worth the visit.

I know you will want to check out my other blog, I have shot photographs at the Behringer-Crawford Museum, Cincinnati Museum Center, Cincinnati Zoo, Creation Museum, Eden Park, Findlay Market, Fountain, Square, Krohn Conservatory, Rabbit Hash, KY, Railway Museum, Smale Park, Spring Grove Cemetery and much more. Williamstown, Kentucky

Another grey day, add some cold windy conditions and this made for the perfect day to lay on the couch, fireplace roaring, tv on, so of course we decided to head on out towards Williamstown, Kentucky, glad we skipped the couch. It has been years since we traveled the 40 miles, when we reached the center of Williams town not a thing looked familiar.

I had made us a picnic lunch not anticipating that we might come across a place but when we passed by this diner I couldn't resist. I'm a small town diner junkie, we walked in to find only one other table occupied, usually not a good sign, as we sat there though it didn't take long before the church crowd came pouring in, we had to chuckle, we were the youngest ones, besides the waitress in the diner. The days special was the homemade chicken pot pie, good amount of chicken, great veggies, the top and bottom crust was awesome, the gravy was a little soupy, thickened up a bit as it cooled. On a scale of 1-5 I'm afraid I would have to give it a 3.825, if they improve the gravy I certainly would give it a 4.563.

After lunch we explored, loved all the farms in the area, not to mention the abundance of farm animals. Always a favorite.

On the Road Again

I decided this would be a good day to get out and do some photographing. I've been holding back mostly because my car needed some work. 2 front axles and some rear breaks later. I was now ready to hit the road and do some traveling. This time I invited my honey along with me. He really didn't understand the concept of photographing, when I see something that I want to photograph it doesn't mean keep on driving, it means stop the darn car, I really missed a lot of shots but I will be going back...alone, sorry sweetie.

Before we started our little adventure we had to stop at Starbucks, not a bad view of the city from the parking lot.
Have to photograph the animals. The only one he would stop for. Note to self, next time don't let honey drive.

No shortage of abandoned house, although this was the only one he would stop for. Note to self, go by yourself to photograph.
Of course this he stopped for all on his own

These two stopped and allowed me to photograph them, it was getting dark so I had to use a flash, they didn't like that but I still got my shot.

Tomorrow I plan on going to Williamstown, KY. Stayed tuned I think you'll enjoy the photographs.

My Sunday Outing

Today was the Devou Park Fair, this is the 3rd or 4th year. If you have little ones this is certainly a nice little visit. My first stop was at the petting zoo, always a favorite.

Some dressed up in period clothing.
Even the Drees Pavilion was decorated.

I believe I counted 5 carriages giving free rides to anyone who wanted to stand in line.
This was the front part of the carriage ride line, it kept going and going. In all honesty the line did move quickly and the kids just loved it.

Music Entertainment anyone? This was the group Appalachian Troubadours. Local group that I will admit sounded pretty good. I saw at least 5 different performers, all of which I will give a B+.
Civil War Reenactment. It was lacking but still fun.
Of course a trip to Devou Park just would seem right without a photo of the City.
As I was leaving the Park the above photo was actually shot at the bottom of the hill the Ludlow side of Devou Park. If you are an avid bike rider and you totally enjoy trail riding this is definitely a place you'll want to ride. This section is just a tiny glimpse of the miles you'll trek through the park, over Sleepy Hollow Rd. and back into the hills. Maybe someday I'll walk part of it...hahahaha, who am I kidding.

I wasn't going to stay out much longer but thought I would head down River Road aka Route 8 towards Route 20. Just when I was about to turn around I remember McGlasson's.
I just love Fall, old country folk band and all.
Don't forget to pickup some Apple Cider, it was ohhhhh sooooo yummmmmmy!!!
You really do not want to miss this, huge and I mean huge pumpkin patch, everyone walked out with a pumpkin. So much fun. Word of advice, bring a wagon the hike becomes a lot longer when you're carrying a large pumpkin.
Of course if you didn't want to go find your own....

Spring Grove Cemetery

This morning on my way to work I decided to visit Spring Grove Cemetery. I've heard how beautiful it is in fall. Unfortunately I believe I missed peak, of course the last two days have been extremely windy so a lot of leaves have already dropped. If you're in the area I would still visit but I would do it soon.

A Spooky Twist of Today's Photos

I'm bored, I need a life, I need a hobby, oh wait I have the hobby part down, need to work on the getting a life part now.

I'm Bored

Just having some fun at my children's expense.

The Last Train to Clarksville

Okay, okay so the Monkey's were probably not referring to Clarksville, Oh when they wrote the song, it was where I was headed though.

Arriving close to Clarksville I hit a traffic jam.
In my post from the other day I mentioned that I was going to go to Caesars Lake near Waynesville, Oh. It wasn't until I found out that the annual Sauerkraut Festival  (yes you read that correctly) was being held at the same time.Apparently this not a festival for just the locals, not hundreds but thousands of people show up for this festival, causing major traffic jams. I'm not that much of a people person to withstand that many people. I ended up at Cowan Lake which is SE of Clarksville

Slacker

Lets face it I'm a slacker. If I could figure out a way to spend all my time photographing I would. Work, house, my honey and the dogs seem to be taking up most of my time. With fall foliage almost at its peak here in the Northern Kentucky area I'm thinking about heading out to find me some trees. My group went to Spring Grove Cemetery  last weekend so I thought I would give it a shot this weekend. I am also thinking about Caesar Creek Park about 45 miles  up I-71. Lets hope the weather cooperates. STAY TUNED!!!

Welcome To Paradise

I read on someone else's blog that they ventured out to The Beach Water Park. He had mentioned that it was abandoned. I was interested so off I went in search of this abandoned water park. Now I am usually pretty good at finding my way but today my inner GPS was so out of whack. First I hit the wrong exit, as soon as I got off the exit I hit major traffic, if you are from the area never, NEVER get off exit 19 off of I-71 on a Saturday, it took me 5 minutes to figure out I was in the wrong spot and another 40 minutes to get back on the expressway, I really should have gone home. I finally made it back on the x-way, 5 miles up the road I hit the Kings Island exit, phew, made it, or so I thought, thankfully I am female and have no ego problems so I stopped to ask for directions....twice. I drove by the damn sign 3 times....I should have gone home. When I arrived I found that the park is going to reopen in the summer of 2013, not as abandoned as I hoped. It was easy to get into the park, a little to easy, it wasn't until I saw security that I said to myself, I should really just go home, I decided to just walk the perimeter, photographed a little bit of the area and well, just went home. Next weekend the tress should be almost at 100% color, thought I might go up to Lebanon. It's a thought, at least I know how to get there.
