Who the Heck am I

Welcome to my blog, I ran out of storage space on my last blog so instead of purchasing more space I decided to start another.

Photographing is one of my biggest passions in life. I've been a photographer for 20+ years. Although I have sold some of my work I consider myself an advance amateur. Which means I'm pretty good at pretending to know what I am doing. I arrived from Massachusetts to Northern Kentucky September 16, 2001. I hated it, for months I complained about living here, besides all the redneck jokes I would get there was nothing about Northern Kentucky I enjoyed, when I got over myself I dusted off my camera and headed for the hills, literally, I never fully understood what a beautiful place this is until I was given my first digital camera as a Christmas gift. In all honesty you couldn't get me to move out of this state.

Living so near to Cincinnati (I live right across the river) no other city can offer me more. Art museums, Cincinnati Zoo, symphony, theatre, aquarium, amusement park, Dozens of parks, one of the largest and most amazing firework display in the country and so much more. If you are from the area you know what I am talking about, if you're not, believe me when I say In and Around Northern Kentucky is worth the visit.

I know you will want to check out my other blog, I have shot photographs at the Behringer-Crawford Museum, Cincinnati Museum Center, Cincinnati Zoo, Creation Museum, Eden Park, Findlay Market, Fountain, Square, Krohn Conservatory, Rabbit Hash, KY, Railway Museum, Smale Park, Spring Grove Cemetery and much more. Christmas Deco

Since my attempt at capturing my Christmas decorations seem to be in vain I decided to do the Bokeh effect instead.

Every time I tried to photograph the above photo I kept getting this white mist, could I have a ghost in the house?

The Minnie Snow Storm

The snow came down pretty heavy at times, my thoughts of course went straight to the cabin, it is always beautiful there but I did discover that when you like snow as much as I do...it's pretty anywhere.

A Rest for Pets...Meet Logan

I would like for you to meet Logan. Logan is a stray kitty that has been going between our house and two other neighbors houses for a few weeks now, we are all feeding him and giving him something to sleep on at night, yesterday we had a Minnie snow storm, our first in the new house but that is another story, it snowed about 4 inches enough to make it miserable for such a tiny cat, Greg, the little sap that he is couldn't stand the thought of kitty being out on such a godforsaken night, as luck would have it kitty...now known as Logan came by the house for a little snacky, Logan was snatched up and placed in one of the doggie crates, for his own safety. He wasn't happy about it but he stayed in the crate all night. By late morning we decided to let him out and see how he would fit in with the rest of the rug rats, well stupid me thought Logan would get chewed up by the dogs, little did I know that it would be the dogs that would need the protecting, a few swipes of the paw sent Jasper running down the stairs and Jessie hiding by the back door, Jessie won't come back upstairs. Greg has decided he wants to keep him, I guess I can go along with that for now, I know Logan will calm down after his snip, snip procedure.

My Backyard View in Alto, GA

The last time I was in Georgia was 2002, way to long between visits as far as I'm concerned. I couldn't remember much about the area and we arrived this time in the dark so any exploration had to wait until the next morning and wow what a surprise it was to go out into the back yard and find all this, my only regret is that we didn't plan a trip here during fall foliage, next year for sure. If I lived here I'm not sure I would spend any time in the house.

My Break From Christmas Decorating

I went down Route 177 to have a look at what was behind all the trees since the leaves fell, pretty sweet, when I get my suv back it will be time to go on a nice long road trip.
Apparently you can drop a train car anywhere in Northern Kentucky.
This photo just gives me the creeps, creepier because it is out of focus and in black and white.
 I see cows.

 Big hill...BIG HILL!!!
I've got to have me a look inside this beauty.
Can't figure out how in the hell you get to this house.

Preparing for the Christmas Holiday

Welcome to the house of Christmas hell, this has been my dining room table for the last couple of weeks, until today that is, I finally finished my wreath and cleared the table, it's still early in the season so my hopes are not high that my table won't be like this again soon.
Below is the finished wreath, since this is my first try I'll be generous and I will give myself a 3.5 out of a possible 5. YAY ME!!!

I'll try to photograph this in the evening, for now this will just have to do.
Still working on the shelves. UGH! Books I need lots of books

My little misfit tree, for those ornaments that just didn't fit anywhere.

Christmas Already?

Every year we complain more and more about how early American business advertise Christmas, this year I saw my first commercial, although I can't remember who it was, in the middle of October, honestly I draw the line anything Christmas before Halloween however, I find in my opinion November to be fair game when it comes to everything Christmas, go ahead roll those eyes. Last week I made honey bring up the fake Christmas tree (I'm allergic to real trees) so I could start putting the lights on. Most people are not as picky as I am when it comes to Christmas lights, since this is a new tree all new lights have to be put on the tree, every branch from the tip to the trunk, this will take me hours that I will split up between two days, yep I put up a hell of a lot of lights but boy it is worth it.

This year is our first year in our new house, because of this I have had to put a lot of thought into how I will decorate, the last 10 days I have devoted all my energy into decorating the tree plus the two other smaller trees, the mantel, living room and dining room, I still have to do the staircase, put together a wreath to hang above the fireplace, a couple of flower arrangements are needed and lastly I will decorate the front of the house. My estimation is the house should be completed by the end of next week.

Now if I were to follow all the rules I wouldn't start decorating until the day after Thanksgiving, since Thanksgiving is the 28th of November that would mean technically I wouldn't finish the house until around December 16th, not acceptable, if I'm going to put all this effort into making my first Christmas in my new house I'm damn well going to enjoy it longer then a couple of weeks. That's my opinion and their is a good chance it will never change. Stay tune for photos.

UGH!!!

When I left for California fall foliage was almost at its peak, once I arrived home about 50% of the leaves had already found themselves on the ground. This left me in a in between stage, no point photographing the foliage but not quite ready to find those hidden gems that were hiding behind the leaves. I wish I could say that I am patiently waiting the transition but the reality is I am soooooo bored and want to get out of this house, of course it doesn't help that I have a cold too, which is what I get for going to the Doc's for my flu shot, UGH!!! Keeping fingers crossed that the weekend brings better health....Ahhhhchooo, this maybe wishful thinking. Stay tuned!

Oops, Not My Fault

If you've been following this blog regularly you may remember me writing about the cameras we installed when we lived in the cabin, we decided to hook them up at the new house as well. Two of the cameras point right at our cars on the street. Both husband and I were sitting in the den when we heard a horn blow, when we looked at the monitor we saw an SUV going down the wrong way on our street, we watched the vehicle pull into our neighbors driveway then went back to watching our tv show, it wasn't until a police officer came knocking on our door did we find out that the woman driving the SUV backed right into our car, amazing the damage that occurred, I really felt bad for the woman, it was pretty hard to get mad at her, she was so apologetic and really did feel horrible not to mention that she could have driven away and we would not have known about the damage until much later, she did the right thing and called the police, kudos to her for owning up to it.

If any environmentalists are reading this blog... no judging, I like my V8 SUV and I'm keeping it. :-)

Overlooks Northeast of San Marcos, CA

It's hard to believe that I have been home for nearly a week, I've been so busy that this is the first time I have had to put up photos. Even though my blog is about in and around northern Kentucky I have to show a little bit about my trip, it was awesome, I had such a wonderful time, unfortunately my granddaughter didn't really warm up to me until the night before I left but I still had so much fun watching her do her thing.

The bright spot of my week will be seeing my granddaughter, I leave for California this weekend, unfortunately honey has to stay home and work, ahhhhhhh. So don't go away I'll be back shortly.

Happy First Birthday Allison!

My First House

I didn't have a paid shoot but a friend of Greg's that has a model home allowed me to photograph it. I have to say I just love this lens, very very little distortion and the lines are pretty smooth. I also used Photoshop Elements 11 to post process. I still need a little practice, okay maybe a lot of practice but for my first time out I'm pleased. So my question is this, if you saw this house up for sale, it was in your price range, would these photos make you want to go see this house?
