Who the Heck am I

Welcome to my blog, I ran out of storage space on my last blog so instead of purchasing more space I decided to start another.

Photographing is one of my biggest passions in life. I've been a photographer for 20+ years. Although I have sold some of my work I consider myself an advance amateur. Which means I'm pretty good at pretending to know what I am doing. I arrived from Massachusetts to Northern Kentucky September 16, 2001. I hated it, for months I complained about living here, besides all the redneck jokes I would get there was nothing about Northern Kentucky I enjoyed, when I got over myself I dusted off my camera and headed for the hills, literally, I never fully understood what a beautiful place this is until I was given my first digital camera as a Christmas gift. In all honesty you couldn't get me to move out of this state.

Living so near to Cincinnati (I live right across the river) no other city can offer me more. Art museums, Cincinnati Zoo, symphony, theatre, aquarium, amusement park, Dozens of parks, one of the largest and most amazing firework display in the country and so much more. If you are from the area you know what I am talking about, if you're not, believe me when I say In and Around Northern Kentucky is worth the visit.

I know you will want to check out my other blog, I have shot photographs at the Behringer-Crawford Museum, Cincinnati Museum Center, Cincinnati Zoo, Creation Museum, Eden Park, Findlay Market, Fountain, Square, Krohn Conservatory, Rabbit Hash, KY, Railway Museum, Smale Park, Spring Grove Cemetery and much more. Falmouth, Kentucky

It was quite the adventure trying to find this plot of land that was for sale in Falmouth, KY. Unfortunately the Realtor failed to put a for sale sign out. We ended up not being able to find the right property. I did manage to photograph the area.

 Licking River
It's a little hard to see but down below someone dumped an old VW mini bus. By the looks of it it has been sitting down there for quite sometime.

Our Dream Home

We did some house hunting today, actually it was land but when I saw this home I told Greg that I just had to have it. Bahaha.

Frankfort, KY

This has been quite the active weekend, went house shopping again, this time we ended up in Ghent, KY, approximately 40 miles southwest of the cabin. After we checked out the house, which we decided not to make a bid on, we headed down to the capital, I've traveled briefly through Frankfort before but this time we spent a little longer, what a great little town, I expected more in the way of a city type setting but it ended up having that small town feeling. In all honesty the capital building really looks a little out of place, it was huge. I was really surprised at how very few people were walking around the town, even more surprised at how many shops were closed. My rating for Frankfort between 1-5? I have to give it a 3.75 but only because I couldn't go shopping or eat. I want to make another trip in the spring, should be a lot of fun then.

Above is the old state capital.

22nd Annual Basketball Extravaganza

Tonight I took Greg for his birthday to the 22nd Annual Basketball Extravaganza, okay maybe I got the tickets more for me than him but it is the thought that counts right? The teams consisted of all stars from the Cincinnati Reds and the Bengals, past & present, plus if you contributed lots and lots of money to the charity you actually played. We had a blast and plan on doing this again next year.
My rating for this event between 1-5? A definite 5+.

Property Shopping in Northern Kentucky

Some of you may or may not remember but in Oct. of 2010 my mother passed away, leaving her condo to both my brother and I. I've always intended on selling the condo when the market improved, it has improved so the condo will be going up on the market. Some of you may wonder why Greg & I would want to leave the cabin but in reality the novelty has worn off and I look forward to owning a house with actual bedrooms instead of an open loft, I really look forward to city water instead of a cistern, I can handle a septic system but would rather be hooked up to the city sewer, oh and I soooo want a dishwasher, I couldn't afford giving up the cupboard space for one here. Yes I am a bit lazy, so don't judge me.

Greg got this idea of buying property and building our home (he has over 30 years experience in the housing industry designing and building residential homes) himself. We spent all day Sunday looking at property, this one really interested us, 78 acres including a barn. By the way by the end of the day and talking about all the work he would have to do we decided to buy a house....hahaha I already knew we would silly man. Still I did love the property, especially the barn which was located just outside of Brooksville, KY.

Metamora, Indiana

I know that I've been really slacking lately with the blog, I'm still dealing with this pinched nerve that has made my entire arm tingly and my fingers numb. I have such a hard time on the computer, it is uncomfortable and at times painful....blah, blah, blah, I'm just as bored as you are.

Saturday I wanted to get out of the house so bad, I jumped into the car and headed to Metamora, Indiana.

Metamora is Indiana's cherished 1838 canal town. Snuggled in southeastern Indiana's gorgeous countryside, Metamora is immersed in history and famous for its preservation of Indiana's oldest and still operating water-powered grist mill. I'm probably one of the few that doesn't know what a grist mill is so just in case someone else out there doesn't know either a grist mill is a building in which grain is ground into flour. You've just become a little smarter if you didn't know what it was....you're welcome.

Metamora is one of the most charming and fascinating towns in Indiana!  Well known for it's wide range of delightful shops, restaurants, friendly shopkeepers, events, festivals, and tasty eats and treats.  A must see town that retains all of its traditional charm and languid atmosphere, unless of course you decided to visit this time of year. When I arrived I found only a few shops open, no restaurants, the worst part....no bathrooms were open. My stay was a short one.

On a scale of 1-5 I rate this adventure a 2. If you were to go at the height of the season this is absolutely an easy 5. If you get a chance bring cash and a credit card, you'll go home with loads of good stuff to buy and eat.

The photos below are only a small, very small sampling of what this little village has to offer.

First Day Out

Today was my first day out, what I mean by that is I actually went out into the world, I might add with very minimal pain. YAY!!! I headed to the park where everything looked so dreary even with the sun out so I packed it in and to the river I went. The weather was warmer then southern California today, a balmy 61 degrees, a lot of people were out with cameras in hand as well. I tried out my movie mode with a little success, I'll need to learn a little more about it, okay, okay, okay, a lot more.

The banks are still covered in water but as you can see from the guy sitting on the steps (which was covered with water last week) the river is receding.

I still need to take it easy with my arm until all the numbness in my fingers go away, so for now my adventures will be limited. Hopefully not for to long.

Snowy Day

What a beautiful day, I forced myself outside with the camera to photograph the snow. Tomorrow I conquer the deck stairs. YAY!!! Whatever. It's a little strange to type as my fingers are still numb, I had to change hands to work with the mouse, not as difficult as I thought it would be. Anyway hope you're having a great day, things are improving slowly for me, hope to be back soon out and about.
