Who the Heck am I

Welcome to my blog, I ran out of storage space on my last blog so instead of purchasing more space I decided to start another.

Photographing is one of my biggest passions in life. I've been a photographer for 20+ years. Although I have sold some of my work I consider myself an advance amateur. Which means I'm pretty good at pretending to know what I am doing. I arrived from Massachusetts to Northern Kentucky September 16, 2001. I hated it, for months I complained about living here, besides all the redneck jokes I would get there was nothing about Northern Kentucky I enjoyed, when I got over myself I dusted off my camera and headed for the hills, literally, I never fully understood what a beautiful place this is until I was given my first digital camera as a Christmas gift. In all honesty you couldn't get me to move out of this state.

Living so near to Cincinnati (I live right across the river) no other city can offer me more. Art museums, Cincinnati Zoo, symphony, theatre, aquarium, amusement park, Dozens of parks, one of the largest and most amazing firework display in the country and so much more. If you are from the area you know what I am talking about, if you're not, believe me when I say In and Around Northern Kentucky is worth the visit.

I know you will want to check out my other blog, I have shot photographs at the Behringer-Crawford Museum, Cincinnati Museum Center, Cincinnati Zoo, Creation Museum, Eden Park, Findlay Market, Fountain, Square, Krohn Conservatory, Rabbit Hash, KY, Railway Museum, Smale Park, Spring Grove Cemetery and much more. Just click on the link below.

Looking Into the Future

So today I told my husband that I was buying a new lens and that I was going to let him choose which one I got....

The Canon 1200mm lens for $120,000.00...or

The Sigma 200-500mm lens for $25,000.00...or

The Canon 800mm lens for $13,000.00 or........

70-200mm lens for $2400.00

Now remember he has to choose one....lol. I really wanted all of them but the reality is I wanted the 70-200mm, needless to say he thought the  $2,400.00 price really didn't seem all that bad. Wish I could have it tomorrow but maybe by the Spring.

I wonder if this same method would work with the Escalade I want? Probably not, with my luck I would end up with a Smart car.

Thank God for manual focus. I didn't use any of my up close filters and no matter how hard I tried automatic focus wouldn't work at all. Not bad for using just the lens.

Yesterday I had to take a sick day, today a little bit better. Here is Jasper taking a little dog nap on the cool tile floor that I am hoping will be torn up and eventually have wood floors installed. Had to get that out...lol. He is a sweetie.

Little Allison

I did not take this photo but wanted to share with the world my beautiful granddaughter who was the flower girl at her Uncle Mike's wedding. Also shared was a video of some of the photos taken by Metzger Studios, I was barely holding back the tears until this photo popped up on the screen, you guessed it, I totally lost it. I have never felt so lucky in my life as I do right now. Thank you God for such a wonderful family.

Had a little fun with photoshop.

Halloween

Okay I know it is still September and I am really not one of those crazy people that starts decorating 2 months before a holiday however, I am the crazy person that loves a good ghost story. I came across this article which has 7 of the creepiest places to visit in and around Northern Kentucky. I have been to two. With Halloween approaching I just have to check out these places. The weekend brings with it some fantastic weather so I my first trip will have to be to the Miami Cemetery. I love a good cemetery. Yes I am a little strange, I like me that way...lol. So hang on this just might be a fun ride.

Thank you to the impulcity for this great article.

Miami Cemetery

There certainly aren't many cemeteries that stay open after dark, but Miami Cemetery is one of those rare exceptions to that fact. While one side closes at night, the other is open well into the wee hours of the morning. This is the time at which many have claimed to have seen the ghost of a little girl running around from headstone to headstone. Where she came from, or why she haunts this cemetery is as good a guess to yours as it is ours. Too many people had seen her to ignore it, though.
If you've never been to a graveyard at night; it's definitely an experience. The silence late in the night is haunting in itself, because it kind of sets you up to start imagining things. We never saw anything straight on, but we kept thinking we were seeing white blurs in the corner of our eyes. Sleep deprivation is one thing, but it's another thing to feel cold chills on a warm summer night over and over again...
I have no idea who took this photo so I can not give this person any credit.

I Must Be Insane

As summer comes to an end and fall officially begins it brings with it change, I too have thought about change. Change is good for the soul, rejuvenates the mind and takes us elsewhere to start anew. My photography has been my life, it has allowed me to see ordinary things and turn them into something deeper, Now...now it is time to try something completely different, to challenge my mind, my imagination, my photography, it is time to do...........the 365 project, and so it is written, therefore it shall be.Okay no need for the dramatics.  For those of you that may not be familiar with this project, I will be taking a photograph at least once a day for a year and posting it here on my blog. For me that is one hell of a commitment. This project will start September 22, 2014.  So come on, join me. It just might be a fun ride.

See you soon,
Kelly

Cincinnati Reds Fireworks 05-Sep-14

If you haven't been down to the river to catch any of the fireworks this year you still have one more chance, September 26th will be the last event of the season. Although I haven't been to as many events this year as I have in the past, I do believe that this year was the best.

Rest for Pets

Cats sleep not only in the strangest places but in the strangest ways. I have no idea how Luke can be comfortable.

Foggy Morning on the River

Looking out the window before going to bed I saw fog starting to roll into the area, I wasn't sure if it would still be there in the morning but I set my alarm anyway just in case. Waking up way to early for me, (I'm a night owl) I eagerly made my way downstairs and out the front door to check on the fogs conditions, much to my delight it was still foggy. Grabbing the camera I flew out the door. Heading for the river I was hoping it would stay foggy long enough to get some photos. Woohoo I hit the jackpot. The three photos below were taken on and near Riverside Drive, right across the river from downtown Cincinnati.

The one above is by far my favorite. I am ohhhh soooo printing this one up and hanging it somewhere.
I think I'll print this one up as well.

Lewis & Fleming County Kentucky

Today both Greg & I wanted to take a look at some property down in Lewis County, KY just south of Maysville. 4 acres of land that varied from cleared to wooded with a creek running behind the lot. This is as far south as we have been to look for property, I will be the first to admit it, it was way to south for me. Gregory being from northern Georgia I thought had a thick accent, ohhhhhh noooooo, southern Kentucky is far harder to understand. I mean they even put a spin on "ya'll" that would make your toes curl. It did have its positives like the old house below that I so wanted to explore but I didn't want to rustle any feathers, Greg's feathers that is, {rolling eyes.} As we turned the corner to get a closer look at the old house.........

........we ran smack dab into my first, yes first covered bridge in Kentucky. The trip was so totally worth it. Soon things became a little ummmmm, odd.....

......See this walking bridge below? Right below it is a creek, mostly dried up right now, when the rains come I am sure it is quite the different story anyway, for now residence of this small community are able to drive through the creek to get to their homes however, when the rains come they have to use the walking bridge to get over the creek, if you didn't leave your car on the other side, well you're stuck. Different way to live.
Welcome to Fleming County, this is Amish Country. See the woman in the buggy? She wasn't happy that I took her photo. I wasn't worried though we had more horse power then she did....bahahahaha.

Happy Five Year Anniversary In and Around Northern Kentucky

It's hard to believe that I have been blogging for 5 years now. The photos below were from my very first post back in Aug of 2009, amazing how time just flies. These same photos were the reason why I write a reminder now and then as to why you should always backup everything on your computer. Maybe some day soon I'll go back and retake these photos.
