Who the Heck am I

Welcome to my blog, I ran out of storage space on my last blog so instead of purchasing more space I decided to start another.

Photographing is one of my biggest passions in life. I've been a photographer for 20+ years. Although I have sold some of my work I consider myself an advance amateur. Which means I'm pretty good at pretending to know what I am doing. I arrived from Massachusetts to Northern Kentucky September 16, 2001. I hated it, for months I complained about living here, besides all the redneck jokes I would get there was nothing about Northern Kentucky I enjoyed, when I got over myself I dusted off my camera and headed for the hills, literally, I never fully understood what a beautiful place this is until I was given my first digital camera as a Christmas gift. In all honesty you couldn't get me to move out of this state.

Living so near to Cincinnati (I live right across the river) no other city can offer me more. Art museums, Cincinnati Zoo, symphony, theatre, aquarium, amusement park, Dozens of parks, one of the largest and most amazing firework display in the country and so much more. If you are from the area you know what I am talking about, if you're not, believe me when I say In and Around Northern Kentucky is worth the visit.

I know you will want to check out my other blog, I have shot photographs at the Behringer-Crawford Museum, Cincinnati Museum Center, Cincinnati Zoo, Creation Museum, Eden Park, Findlay Market, Fountain, Square, Krohn Conservatory, Rabbit Hash, KY, Railway Museum, Smale Park, Spring Grove Cemetery and much more. Holy Explosion Batman

I'm not exactly sure what happened but my Star of India photos that I shot in San Diego last year kinda exploded in views yesterday, not to mention my Bengals Pep Rally Firework photos as well. Am I getting linked from somewhere? I don't know.

Liberty Cafe, Butler, Kentucky

Wish I had the smarts to photograph the restaurant and the food but I didn't. I stopped by after getting a recommendation from the young woman at the Shell station, who by the way was very friendly and gave me a rose because I was grandmother, go me!!! I love cafes and diners especially in little towns, so off I went to find Liberty Cafe, after taking the detour (road construction closed the road) I finally came across the little cafe, not at all what you would expect from a small town cafe, everything was new, clean, nice atmosphere. I had such a craving for breakfast so I ordered 2 eggs over medium, biscuits (no gravy, all Kentuckians gasp now) bacon and home fries. The eggs were amazing and seasoned perfectly, the bacon was almost perfect, another minute on the grill would have made them just crispy enough, biscuit (you only get one) was wonderful but my favorite were the home fries, OMG!!! Just the best ever, best part about home fries? Homemade with real potatoes not frozen....YUMMY! If you get a chance head on over it's worth the ride. 4.5 stars out of 5 for breakfast.

I'll be back!

Butler Kentucky to Dry Ridge Kentucky

Yesterday was a very long day for me. I traveled 165 miles to photograph 7 homes. My first stop was Butler, Kentucky where I found this gem (photo below.)  This historic two story stone house was built by Pendleton County, Kentucky pioneer Walter Fryer in 1811. Abraham Vastine, a housebuilder, built this house of limestone from an adjacent quarry and it has walls two feet thick. The roof truss system is built of wood framing held together with wooden pegs. The home was not completed until 1813. The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Pendleton County Historical Society announced in April 2007 that it had leased the home for 99 years as a museum and Society offices. The building had been vacant for seven years. Thank you Wikipedia

Bambi & Mom

Obviously not one of my better shots, I wasn't fully awake yet (my excuse and I'm sticking to it) but still pretty high on the cute radar.

Well at least the foundation came in clear...lol. Oh well.

Hanging With the Family

This being my future daughter in law Danielle's first visit to Kentucky we took her to the Carew Tower, how is it I never get tired of looking at the city and Kentucky from here? I wish I could say it was a beautiful clear day but it really was not. It started getting hazy, at least the temperature was in the low 80's. Afterwards we headed to Fountain Square sat and talked for a while then headed to Mt Adams for tea and coffee. Yummy.

My Grandchild

I can't believe how big she is getting. Missing her so much but so glad I got to spend time with her.

We can't always be a happy baby.

Hanging Out Near Verona, KY

I didn't realize that a calf was lying down, white cows are so cool looking.

I'm not sure exactly what this is but it looks like someone built a bathroom in the middle of nowhere.

Not Much To Do

If you're from the area then you are very aware of the flooding situation that has been going on in Covington. We were lucky we just had minor water coming into the basement and garage and only because of cracks in the foundation that Greg has patched up. Others around the area haven't been as lucky, they have been cleaning up there basements with not only water but sewage backup as well. Unfortunately not only has it rained for the past week but we've had downpours every day as well. This afternoon the sun finally came out which gave us time (and by us I mean Greg) to fixer up. The pains of home ownership.

You know I'm bored when I'm photographing the coppers.
The neighbors across the way shooting so many fireworks you couldn't even see them anymore through the smoke.

It rained like this yesterday for hours.

Ohhhhhhh Noooooo!!!

If you've been following me on a somewhat regular basis you know that my favorite subject to photograph are fireworks, well for the first time in 3 years I totally forgot all about the fireworks tonight, you would think it being the 4th of July holiday weekend that might have triggered oh I don't know a reminder about tonight, nope instead I decided to have a major brain fart. The photos below are  the first firework photos I had taken, back in July of 2010 before the Great American Tower was even finished.

Excuse Me But......

It's almost 12:30 a.m. and I would like to get some sleep, how about continuing your fireworks tomorrow night? Some of us have to get up in the morning for work. Just sayin.

Camp Ernst Lake Park

Another day taking real estate photos brought me by Camp Ernst Lake Park, some place else I didn't know that existed, not a large lake by any means but certainly a nice place to hang out, rent a canoe or those water paddle whats-a-ma-call-it things, whatever, still looks embarrassingly fun. Don't forget to take a fishing pole. 7615 Camp Ernst Rd. if your looking for something to do, bring the kids, it looks like they have a swimming area as well.

My New Job

My blog has been sorta kinda taking a backseat to not only the house & dogs but now my new job. I work for the Realtor that sold us our house which also happens to be one of Greg's friends, I'm extremely lucky I get to work from home, have a great boss and I get to photograph houses. Unfortunately lately the houses I've been photographing are those that are being foreclosed on. Booooo hissssss, bad me. All was going pretty well today until the last two houses I was asked to photograph, I got a little harassed by one owner & a neighbor of the other owner. I wont stop nor will I acknowledge them, don't want to get beat up. I'm half expecting to have the police show up at my house to find out what I am doing. Thankfully what I am doing is not illegal so really nothing can be said or done. I do hope that the excitement I had today will be the worse part of it.

The up side of all of this is I get to go to places that I have never been, roads I've never traveled and sites I've never seen. Today I had to many houses to photograph but I still managed a couple of extra photos.

By the way did I mention I'm getting married? Next week, I know pretty darn fast but it looks like both sides of the family are going to make it. I'm so excited to see my granddaughter! Oh fireworks this Friday plus I bought sparklers to try to photograph as well so stay tuned.
