Who the Heck am I

Welcome to my blog, I ran out of storage space on my last blog so instead of purchasing more space I decided to start another.

Photographing is one of my biggest passions in life. I've been a photographer for 20+ years. Although I have sold some of my work I consider myself an advance amateur. Which means I'm pretty good at pretending to know what I am doing. I arrived from Massachusetts to Northern Kentucky September 16, 2001. I hated it, for months I complained about living here, besides all the redneck jokes I would get there was nothing about Northern Kentucky I enjoyed, when I got over myself I dusted off my camera and headed for the hills, literally, I never fully understood what a beautiful place this is until I was given my first digital camera as a Christmas gift. In all honesty you couldn't get me to move out of this state.

Living so near to Cincinnati (I live right across the river) no other city can offer me more. Art museums, Cincinnati Zoo, symphony, theatre, aquarium, amusement park, Dozens of parks, one of the largest and most amazing firework display in the country and so much more. If you are from the area you know what I am talking about, if you're not, believe me when I say In and Around Northern Kentucky is worth the visit.

I know you will want to check out my other blog, I have shot photographs at the Behringer-Crawford Museum, Cincinnati Museum Center, Cincinnati Zoo, Creation Museum, Eden Park, Findlay Market, Fountain, Square, Krohn Conservatory, Rabbit Hash, KY, Railway Museum, Smale Park, Spring Grove Cemetery and much more. Hurricane Isaac

What is it about hurricanes, the Tri-State and the letter "I"? By Monday afternoon Isaac will be just north of us. I haven't heard anything about high winds but then again when Hurricane Ike hit us nearly 4 years ago no one mentioned high winds then either and they were hurricane force 1. I'm not taking any chances and stocking up on what is important, that's right....lots of junk food. I probably should add water and batteries to that list as well. Since we are in the water damage business all employees have been put on high alert, we are expecting rain Friday night through Tuesday afternoon. Not much of a Labor Day weekend. I can't find a new update yet but last I heard we are expecting 2-6 inches of rain (I wonder how much that would in inches of snow?).

Camera battery is fully charged and ready to go. For those of you living in the area stay safe and lets pray that this is not a repeat of IKE. Feeling the shivers running down my spine. For those of you joining me for the first time I added a post in mid July on some of the damage that IKE caused back in September of 2008, check it out here Hurricane Ike Photos

Hanging Out on Riverside Dr.

This evening Greg and I headed to Riverside Drive, we hadn't been there in a such a long time and what a beautiful evening it was. We also ran into some couples, one from Lexington, KY the other from West Chester, OH who were just the nicest people. I love living here.

The evening was going well until the Coast Guard or whoever patrols the river decided to start policing the boaters. It's hard to tell but the blue lights in almost the center of the photo is the police.

The above photos are a long exposure of the BB Riverboats. Both boats were coming in at the same time.
This is the helicopter we are planning on riding in the Fall. It's even smaller in person. Yikes!!!

Cincinnati Reds Firework Event 24-Aug-12

This is it, the last show of the season and it was spectacular. The next big event is the WEBN fireworks over Labor Day weekend but when you have nearly 3/4 of a million people on both sides of the river I avoid that one. Just way to many people for me. Hope your summer was a good one, for myself I had a blast. Next weekend is the Alexandria Fair and Horse Show, check it out, I know I will. Stay tuned, a lot of Fall events as well, then I'll be heading West for a new adventure.

Friday Night Fireworks

The fireworks were a big hit tonight, dozens and dozens of boats on the river. Unfortunately the game ended real late and fireworks didn't even start until around 11:20p.m., I walked in the door 10 minutes ago, it will take me a while to post process so look for photos in the morning. If you missed them tonight you'll have to wait until next year now. They were really good, the second best so far. Good Night!

TGIF

Hello fellow bloggers, well it has been a busy week, I've finished up my first week on the new job. This is my space, the mess was created before my official arrival. I've learned a few things that they failed to mention before I agreed to work. Today the company and I really met for the first time, I found out how they like things and they have found out how it is really going to be.
1. See the fan? That's there because they don't like to pay for A/C. Obviously they really haven't met the real me yet either. I live in  the Midwest, today it was in the 90's, today the A/C was cranked and the fan was on. No one better lay a hand on my fan.
2. If you move slightly to the right of the fan on the floor you will see a space heater, they will be learning more about me in the winter too. The thermostat says that during the winter the heat is not to be above 64 degrees. Like that is never going to happen. 72 degrees baby!!!
3. See the garbage cans on the floor filled to the top not to mention no liners in them? They still haven't been emptied but I'll be taking care of that when the liners that I've ordered come in. I mean how gross is that?
4. It is hard to tell but take a look at the computer monitor, I mean hello the 90's called and they want their monitor back. Good thing I have a spare flat screen.
5. Oh and what up with the big pipe wrench in the ladies bathroom? Do I need to bang the toilet harder next time to get it to flush?

If you are living in the area and reading this before 10p.m. tonight is the last night for the Reds firework event. Can't believe that summer is almost over......I want snow!!! Stay tuned for more firework photos, I'm sure you'll be glad to get a break from them.

Anyone Home?

I know I haven't been around much at all this week, something extremely odd happened, I got a.............JOB! It's a cruel world. I really enjoyed being a bum but alas it had to come to an end. My photography will suffer a bit during the week, UGH!!! Not sure how long this job thing is going to last.

The other evening I took a photo of my new non paying tenant. Click the READ MORE link below. WARNING.....If you don't like spiders you might want to skip the rest of this post.

Back to the Races

We headed back to River Downs today so I could work on my panning, it has been decided that panning and horse racing really doesn't go hand in hand, now race cars on the other hand is a different story, that is next.

Cincinnati Reds Fireworks 17-Aug-12

I hung in there and finished post processing, yay me! The fireworks were pretty amazing, parking was easy, the temperature was perfect as was the weather. Fair warning, next Friday is the last event before the WEBN fireworks event over Labor Day weekend. Don't miss out they are so good.

Hope you enjoy.

A Day at the Races

Let me see what did we do today? Silly me! River Downs of course. My club was meeting at River Downs yesterday but I had so much on my plate that I or I should say we headed to the races today instead. I wanted to work on my panning photography.

The above photo was my first photo, I needed to check my settings, this guy was so funny, he ran by me during his work out with his horse and said "cheese." He must have thought himself quite photogenic as he came back several times to pose for me.
 Warming up time
The above photo was my first attempt at panning, When I checked my LCD screen it looked so clear, I decided to forget panning and just photograph, ummmm boy did I make a mistake, I had no idea that the panning had turned out. Will be going back soon to try again.

This one happened by mistake. Wish I had just stuck it out and just continued panning.

Boone County Fair, Kentucky

Tonight we went to the Boone County Fair. I had a blast! Greg on the other hand enjoyed himself but I think he was just putting up a front. Did I mention I had a blast? This is my first attempt at photographing rides. I photographed the same scene with different exposure times. Hope you made it out there, tonight was the last night.

Some of the rides were a challenge to photograph as many of the rides were so close together. I did the best I could under the circumstances.

Hope you enjoy.

Hanging Around the Sunflower Farm

This morning I woke up, got dressed and headed right on out to the sunflower farm in Deerfield Twp., Ohio. I thought the farm would be bigger and the sunflowers taller but it was still fun to photograph. It turned out to be a perfect day when the clouds started to roll in. This sunflower patch is located right across the street from Deerfield Park, off of Irwin-Simpson Rd.

Here It Comes and.......... Nothin

How do you have all these storm clouds, thunder, lightning and absolutely no rain. C'mon gimmie some of that wet stuff already. Very few of us wish for rain, we are the ones with cisterns.

Backing Up

Every now and again I will write a post that will remind everyone that comes across my blog the importance of backing up your computer. I myself have lost photos because of my choice of not backing up on a regular basis, although this has not happened to me in many years now. I own an external hard drive where I backup my photos to. The computer I use is set up for my photos and online enjoyment, if my computer was to be hacked or crashed tomorrow it would be an inconvenience but not devastating. So here is another reminder plus an article about how important it is to back up everything that is precious to you. Also the article gives you tips on how to secure your digital life. Well worth the read.

I hope your week is going well. See you soon.

Bromley Fair....Not

What an extreme disappointment the Bromley Fair is, I realize that Bromley is a very small town but usually the fair is worth at least some of your time. No rides, bummer. Not all is lost though, The Hamilton County Fair as well as the Boone County Fair is next weekend. Actually the Boone County Fair starts tomorrow until next Saturday. On my list of things to do next week.

More Fireworks From Last Night

Here are the rest from last nights event. Tonight I'm headed to the Bromley Fair, that is as long as the weather holds out.

Cincinnati Reds Fireworks 03-Aug-12

Can you believe that it's Aug. already? Only 2 more firework events left. Hope you've had the chance to catch at least one event. I've been a little off for the last week, I'm not crazy about how these photos came out. Hope you enjoy. Tomorrow night, as long as the rain holds out, we will be heading to the Bromley Fair. Stay tuned for those photos. It's getting late so I will upload more in the morning.
