Who the Heck am I

Welcome to my blog, I ran out of storage space on my last blog so instead of purchasing more space I decided to start another.

Photographing is one of my biggest passions in life. I've been a photographer for 20+ years. Although I have sold some of my work I consider myself an advance amateur. Which means I'm pretty good at pretending to know what I am doing. I arrived from Massachusetts to Northern Kentucky September 16, 2001. I hated it, for months I complained about living here, besides all the redneck jokes I would get there was nothing about Northern Kentucky I enjoyed, when I got over myself I dusted off my camera and headed for the hills, literally, I never fully understood what a beautiful place this is until I was given my first digital camera as a Christmas gift. In all honesty you couldn't get me to move out of this state.

Living so near to Cincinnati (I live right across the river) no other city can offer me more. Art museums, Cincinnati Zoo, symphony, theatre, aquarium, amusement park, Dozens of parks, one of the largest and most amazing firework display in the country and so much more. If you are from the area you know what I am talking about, if you're not, believe me when I say In and Around Northern Kentucky is worth the visit.

I know you will want to check out my other blog, I have shot photographs at the Behringer-Crawford Museum, Cincinnati Museum Center, Cincinnati Zoo, Creation Museum, Eden Park, Findlay Market, Fountain, Square, Krohn Conservatory, Rabbit Hash, KY, Railway Museum, Smale Park, Spring Grove Cemetery and much more. Icefest, Hamilton, OH

Today’s agenda included a visit to Hamilton, OH, about 25 miles north of the cabin. I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day, high in the 50’s, not a cloud in the sky, a little breezy but I dressed for that. Arriving into town you knew immediately where Icefest was located, literally hundreds and hundreds of people everywhere, cars packed the streets. The first order of business was to find a parking space, with the weather as nice as it was I should have known that it was going to be a good day, I found a parking spot right in the middle of Icefest, 30 second walk away, yay! Second order of business was to find a bathroom, this was a task that was a little harder to find, with luck I found one right at the beginning of the ice exhibits. Go me!!!

What I didn't realize was how difficult it is to photograph ice, first off way to many people, half my shots had people walking in front of the camera, the other half was dealing with the backgrounds, extremely difficult to manage. I wasn't looking for perfection anyway so I stopped looking for it. Some of the exhibits, actually all of the exhibits were starting to melt, some had lost pieces, for example the Statue of Liberty lost her torch, not every sculpture was labeled in other words you may not be able to figure out what it is, others are pretty obvious. If I were to do this again I think I would go in the evening.

I really wanted to explore the town but it was so crowded I just gave up. Will visit again, this town has a lot of history, including a visit from President Abe Lincoln. Even without Icefest this is absolutely a place you want check out.

Scale of 1-5 I will give Icefest a 3.5. My reasons for the low rating, to many sculptures where advertisements, I was impressed, ice sculpting is not easy but I really wanted to be amazed, that just didn't happen. Do I plan to attend Icefest again? Probably not. Will I go back to visit Hamilton, OH? .....ABSOLUTELY!
